Search Lights Above Braintree & Witham

During WW2 an Anti-Aircraft Searchlight Battery was used for the detection, location and illumination of enemy aircraft during darkness enabling Gun Batteries to fire at enemy aircraft efficiently.

It took a team of 12 men to operate ONE Searchlight Battery!

Coming to the night skies of Braintree and Witham, Essex– The Temple At War Control Station will recreate this atmospherically jaw dropping spectacular over the Military and Vintage show. A military siren will herald the event on social media as it goes live each night! If you don’t have a personal radar system to signal a potential invasion from the skies, experience the next best thing!

“Without doubt the most enjoyable and relaxed show I have ever attended. Thanks to everyone who obviously works so hard to make it the success that it is.”

“As an active-duty member of the US army and WW11 History Carnosaur I must say that this was one of the best events I’ve gone to in a very long time… You all have great respect for not just history but all sides of it whether it be Allied or Enemy. I got to hear many amazing stories and got a lot of information from some great people. The collections were amazing and the vehicles top-notch and all of you dressed up was just great. I wish there were events and people like this everywhere and everyday not just every so often especially as I am from the USA. I hope I can get back next year to see you all again. Cheers, keep history alive and thank you for a fantastic day!”

“Having served for a number of years in the british army, coming here today was like going back in time.
The smells of hexmin fires cooking, old canvas army tents etc..The sounds of machine gun fire with soldiers in old uniforms is amazing. As well as the ladies singing al the old war songs.
Walking into the show literally took my breath away.
Every part of the show is amazing. Lots of army vehicles to look at as well as different army camps.
All the food stalls have been great too.
I highly recommend the show. One of the best if not the best old military settings I’ve ever seen. I feel as though I’ve gone back in time.
Thank you to every one involved who have made the effort.
Being 100 years since the end of ww1 made it all the more poignant.
Thank you.”
